What is a “mommy makeover”? Think of your body before children. Now look at your body after children…..Uh-oh! If you’re like most women, you have paid for the blessing of children with varying degrees breast, tummy, and other issues. Typically, much of this will resolve with time and through diet and exercise. However, excess skin of the breasts and abdomen leave most women with a body they don’t recognize and don’t want.
DEFLATED AND/OR SAGGING BREASTS
The excess skin of the breast can be removed with a procedure medically known as mastopexy, or breast lift. This procedure is often done in combination with a breast implant if desired due to the loss of fullness that most postpartum women develop, particularly in the upper portion of the breast. Besides lifting and tightening the breast, mastopexy also raises the nipples to a more youthful level, and reduces the size of the areola (the darker skin around the nipple) if desired.
LOOSE ABDOMEN SKIN AND/OR STRETCHMARKS
The second part of a mommy makeover deals with the excess skin of the abdomen and is known medically as abdominoplasty, or more commonly, tummy tuck. This procedure not only removes excess skin, BUT ALSO ELIMINATES MOST OR ALL STRETCH MARKS. Moreover, since much of the postpartum “bulge” is due to stretching or separating of the abdominal muscles, those weakened muscles are repaired as well. Often after babies, the navel ALSO suffers irreparable distortion. So of course, in the interest of leaving no stone unturned, we recreate the original navel to the greatest extent possible.

And to top it all off, we usually perform liposuction (if needed) at the same time in order to recontour the entire chest and abdominal area, and frequently the legs and arms. Of course, the amount and location of liposuction varies according to the particular issues and interests of the patient at the time. It is rare for me to perform the tummy tuck without at least some liposuction to get the most pleasing, naturally sculptured results.
WRAP UP THE PACKAGE
As you read this, you may be thinking that this is a lot of surgery for one setting. However, this is nearly always an outpatient procedure, with patients going home WITH A CARETAKER the same day as in all other surgeries performed under general anesthesia IN OUR FACILITY. The time required for this combination is generally less than 4 hours, depending upon the size of the patient and the amount of liposuction performed. Interestingly enough, the recovery from the complete “mommy makeover” is the same as it would be for the tummy tuck itself. Most people are able to drive within 7-10 days, return to “sit down” jobs in 14 days or less, and full activity, including work outs, within a month. Again, recovery varies with the size and overall health of the patient. Some recovery periods are less and some may be slightly more.
We also have a full service overnight stay facility with continuous care for patients who want that level of care and attention. This may simply be a matter of personal comfort, or may be chosen by Dr. Yarish due to previously existing medical issues, medications, or lack of personal caretakers. Whether the overnight stay option is chosen or not, our nursing staff will assist you with a shower and dressing change the morning after surgery. This may be the single, most amazing feel-good part of the entire process, next to the result itself.
THE FOLLOW UP
Postoperative care begins immediately. The shower and dressing change above is just the start. All of our surgery patients head to our ReNew You MD Medical Spa where they are treated to adjunctive sessions of lymphatic drainage massage of all surgical areas. They also undergo endermologie treatments to enhance and maintain the smooth results we are all looking for. And finally, all incisions are treated with some combination of our proprietary scar cream, silicone taping, and laser therapy in order to give the best overall appearance.
Visit our photo gallery to find the results (plural) you are looking for. Generally…AMAZING! As you can tell from our photos, results vary with the size, shape, and amount of physical distortion that has been caused by childbearing or weight gain and loss for any reason. But it’s often hard to believe so much can be done within one surgical setting.
Call or email us if this is something that interests you. Dr. Yarish and his patient coordinator will be happy to discuss the procedure further and determine if you are a candidate for this life-changing procedure.
