Have you lost weight but still have stubborn fat pockets you can’t get rid of? Do you want a non-invasive and safe fat reduction solution?
Our ReNew You MD Medical Spa offers cutting-edge treatments, so you won’t have to go under the knife. CoolSculpting is an FDA-approved, non-invasive fat reduction treatment that utilizes the cryolipolysis process.
As an alternative to liposuction, CoolSculpting is a contouring treatment designed to chill tissue to the point where stubborn fat cells crystallize, disintegrate, and leave the body naturally over time through the lymphatic system. And unlike other non-surgical fat reduction treatments like Kybella, CoolSculpting targets multiple areas.
What Areas Does CoolSculpting Target?
Diet and exercise do wonders to reduce fat. Unfortunately, you may still have resistant fat pockets once you’ve achieved your goal weight. This may include post-baby fat, a double chin, or fat deposits in the upper arm.
Thankfully, CoolSculpting provides a solution for those who are maintaining their healthy, ideal weight. Providers use this non-surgical procedure to target stubborn fat in the following areas:
- Upper Arms
When to Consider CoolSculpting
CoolSculpting is intended to eliminate stubborn body fat that won’t go away, even after extensive diet and exercise. Therefore, this procedure is not recommended for those who are just starting a weight loss journey.
The CoolSculpting fat reduction treatment is suitable for you if:
- You are tired of dealing with stubborn fat
- You are generally healthy
- You are not pregnant or trying to get pregnant
- You can “pinch an inch” or more of fat in an area
- You do not have significant skin laxity

Kybella vs. CoolSculpting
Kybella and CoolSculpting are both non-surgical fat reduction options. However, Kybella is principally used to eliminate double chins. This injection-based treatment uses deoxycholic acid that breaks down fat to help a patient achieve their chin-slimming goals.
Meanwhile, CoolSculpting targets stubborn fat in multiple areas across the body, and it does so without the patient having to receive any injections. To learn more about the costs, process, and effectiveness of these procedures, read our Kybella vs. CoolSculpting blog.
What to Expect From CoolSculpting
Dr. Yarish and the staff at ReNew You Medical Spa in Houston began using CoolSculpting in 2011 and are well-versed in non-surgical procedures.
The provider uses a wand to apply freezing temperatures to the desired areas. Then, they apply a gel pad and applicator to the patient’s targeted area during treatment for controlled cooling. Next, the wand moves over the skin, administering suction and cooling technology to the treatment area.
The cold temperature doesn’t damage skin or tissues. It merely induces a numbing sensation. The extreme cold obliterates fat cells by breaking them open and encouraging the body to dispose of them through normal metabolic processes. The whole procedure takes approximately 30 minutes to an hour.
It’s normal to experience feelings of pulling or tugging during the process, but overall the procedure induces minimal pain. Affected areas are massaged immediately after the treatment to break up frozen deep tissue fat. This encourages the body to absorb the destroyed fat cells.
Possible Side Effects of CoolSculpting
Most side effects are limited to localized reactions, meaning they’re only present in the treatment area. These may include:
- Bruising, redness, or swelling
- Pain, aching, or a stinging sensation
- Delayed-onset pain
- Extremely rare cases of Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia
Be sure to speak with your physician about any additional personal risk factors that might influence cosmetic procedures. They can provide a complete list of potential side effects or conflicts based on your medical history.
How Many CoolSculpting Sessions Are Required?
The number of treatments depends on a patient’s ideal fat reduction ratio. However, most recipients undergo two sessions on average. These treatments are spaced a month apart to allow the treatment to take effect.
For CoolSculpting to work, the wand’s paddles must be able to grip a bulge of fat. However, additional sessions aren’t required once there is no longer any bulge.
Losing Weight vs. CoolSculpting Fat Reduction
The human body has a fixed number of fat cells. Losing or gaining weight does not usually increase or decrease the number of these cells; it merely changes their size. Losing weight makes the cells smaller, but it doesn’t make them go away.
As soon as weight is gained, these cells get bigger. Alternatively, CoolSculpting reduces fat cells by about 20-25%. The procedure permanently eradicates the cells, and they won’t migrate to any other areas of the body. Similarly, there’s no change to cells in untreated areas.
What Happens After Your CoolSculpting Treatment?
Patients typically undergo two series of treatments, and the results become visible after two to four months. The appearance of the treatment areas becomes thinner and smaller as the fat cells are naturally eliminated.
Discover if CoolSculpting Fat Reduction Is Right For You
Bear in mind that CoolSculpting is not a permanent fix. While the procedure permanently removes some of the body’s fat cells, if you don’t maintain your weight, the remaining fat cells can still grow. However, the cells you lose with this procedure are gone for life. As with all our treatments, for best results, we recommend following a healthy lifestyle.
