About Facelift Surgery
Facelift surgery restores a natural-looking and younger appearance by lifting and firming the facial tissues that have begun to sag over time. Excess skin is also removed to eliminate sagging. Deep folds, lines and wrinkles are smoothed. This type of cosmetic surgery improves the overall look of Houston and Lake Jackson patients and helps them to feel better about their appearance.
Reasons to Consider Facelift
Skin loses firmness and elasticity over time, along with volume. Gradually, the effects of this process result in the loose skin, deep wrinkles, jowls and facial folds that are the tell-tale signs of age. Facelift surgery can provide patients with a return to the firm, youthful skin they once had. There are a number of particular reasons patients consider a facelift. Some of the most common are:
- Results that are more long term than other treatments can provide
- Desire to cover flaws with makeup or other accessories
- Self-consciousness due to sagging skin and facial folds
- Looking older than one feels

How It Works
There are different types of facelift surgery, including the mini-facelift and the standard facelift. The condition of the patient’s skin and the type of results desired will determine the technique that is used. Typically, general anesthesia is given for this type of surgery, though it is possible for less intensive procedures to be performed using local anesthesia with sedation.
A facelift is a significant surgical procedure. Houston and Lake Jackson patients can expect to have a recovery period of about four weeks after a standard facelift, but less in the case of a mini-facelift. Each individual will be provided thorough instructions for what to expect during this time and the necessary steps to take while healing. Get in touch with Yarish Plastic Surgery today if you think you may be a candidate for facelift surgery. We look forward to helping you look your best!
At Yarish Plastic Surgery, we believe that skin and body rejuvenation is an evolutionary process that does not begin and end solely with the surgery itself.
While we do know that surgery is the most dramatic and gratifying part of the rejuvenation process, Dr. Yarish is also convinced that we can enhance and even maximize your surgery results with our “comprehensive rejuvenation concept”. This concept is essentially a treatment plan specifically designed for each procedure in order to prepare the skin and body for surgery and to aid the healing process following your surgery.
We do recognize that many people do not have the time or inclination to take advantage of the compete program, and we want to assure you that your surgical results will be the best attainable anywhere. However, if you are in a position to take advantage of the “comprehensive rejuvenation concept,” you will find the entire experience to be more relaxing, and you will know that you have treated yourself to the most unique and gratifying experience that plastic surgery has to offer. And you will know that you have availed yourself of the ultimate in skin and body rejuvenation.
In order to make this experience more convenient and affordable, we have created a combination of ultimate experience packages specifically tailored to enhance each procedure. Dr. Yarish strongly recommends that you take advantage of this “comprehensive rejuvenation concept.” The program outlined for you will be instituted pre-operatively, and will be continued post-operatively until healing is complete.
What to Know About Getting a Facelift
Houston and Lake Jackson patients thinking about getting a facelift can find answers below to some of our most frequently asked questions. Dr. Yarish invests significant personal, quality time with his patients to make sure they get the individual care required for the results they hope to achieve.
Am I a Candidate for a Facelift?
Adult men and women of all ages can undergo a facelift, provided they are in good overall health. Generally, most Houston and Lake Jackson patients seek a facelift as they begin to see signs of aging in their early 40’s (sometimes earlier) on up to 70’s or even 80’s. Many of Dr. Yarish’s patients who’ve had surgery in earlier years will return 10-20 years later for a ‘touch up,’ and many of them are older than one might imagine.
Are Facelift Results Permanent?
Houston and Lake Jackson patients who get a facelift from Dr. Yarish typically see their results last for several years. With that said, even a facelift is not a safeguard against aging. As you continue to age, your face will age with you. But you will have a new “set point” whereby you will continuously look younger and more “fresh” than your age would otherwise indicate. Factors that can accelerate all know, they include sun exposure, smoking, and drug or alcohol abuse. Genetics is the one aspect that you can’t control, so work with what you can!
Does a Facelift Leave Behind Scars?
Because Dr. Yarish must make incisions, a facelift does leave behind subtle scars. However, Dr. Yarish is able to make the incision in a very inconspicuous area hidden in the hair and behind the ear. While you might notice these scars at first, as they heal, they become practically invisible and fade into the natural creases of your face.
What Is the Recovery Like After a Facelift?
As in most surgical procedures, you will need someone to drive you home and attend to you to sure you are comfortable and safe. You will be seen the morning following your surgery where you will have your hair washed, incisions cleaned, and you will be given a small elastic dressing that increases your comfort and limits swelling. Also, further instructions will be provided. You will spend the majority of the next few days resting and elevation your head, although we encourage walking gently as much as possible during early recovery to facilitate healing and to avoid complications. Most people are able to return to sedentary jobs within two weeks. More demanding occupations may require more time. You might still notice some minor swelling and bruising in the area, but this will continue to fade and can be covered with a particular concealer. Dr. Yarish’s spa will use laser and lymphatic drainage massage (this is included with your surgery package) to facilitate the entire healing process. As long as you follow your aftercare instructions, your recovery should go smoothly.
Is Having a Facelift Painful?
Overall, most Houston and Lake Jackson patients report that having a facelift is minimally painful. Instead, most people describe feeling a sensation of pulling or fullness. However, everyone has varying levels of pain tolerance. Dr. Yarish will give you pain medication to ease any soreness you experience after the surgery. Ice packs can provide quick relief for any troubling aches. Most of Dr. Yarish’s patients will take only one or two pain pills early in the recovery of the first day, and very little or none after that.
What Are the Risks Involved with a Facelift?
Like any surgery, a facelift does come with some risks, including injury to your nerves that could lead to a loss of sensation or movement in the face, extreme scarring or bleeding. The worst of these is extremely rare and nearly always limited in duration. Again following the instructions given will facilitate more rapid healing.
