Houston and Lake Jackson
What is a “mommy makeover”? Think of your body before children. Now look at your body after children…..Uh-oh! If you’re like most women, you have paid for the blessing of children with varying degrees breast, tummy, and other issues. Typically, much of this will resolve with time and through diet and exercise. However, excess skin of the breasts and abdomen leave most Houston and Lake Jackson women with a body they don’t recognize and don’t want.
DEFLATED AND/OR SAGGING BREASTS
The excess skin of the breast can be removed with a procedure medically known as mastopexy, or breast lift. This procedure is often done in combination with a breast implant if desired due to the loss of fullness that most postpartum women develop, particularly in the upper portion of the breast. Besides lifting and tightening the breast, mastopexy also raises the nipples to a more youthful level, and reduces the size of the areola (the darker skin around the nipple) if desired.
LOOSE ABDOMEN SKIN AND/OR STRETCHMARKS
The second part of a mommy makeover deals with the excess skin of the abdomen and is known medically as abdominoplasty, or more commonly, tummy tuck. This procedure not only removes excess skin, but it also eliminates most or all stretch marks. Moreover, since much of the postpartum “bulge” is due to stretching or separating of the abdominal muscles, those weakened muscles are repaired as well. Often after babies, the navel ALSO suffers irreparable distortion. So of course, in the interest of leaving no stone unturned, we recreate the original navel to the greatest extent possible.

And to top it all off, we usually perform liposuction (if needed) at the same time in order to recontour the entire chest and abdominal area, and frequently the legs and arms. Of course, the amount and location of liposuction varies according to the particular issues and interests of the patient at the time. It is rare for me to perform the tummy tuck without at least some liposuction to get the most pleasing, naturally sculptured results.
WRAP UP THE PACKAGE
As you read this, you may be thinking that this is a lot of surgery for one setting. However, this is nearly always an outpatient procedure, with Houston and Lake Jackson patients going home with the caretaker the same day as in all other surgeries performed under general anesthesia in our facility. The time required for this combination is generally less than 4 hours, depending upon the size of the patient and the amount of liposuction performed. Interestingly enough, the recovery from the complete “mommy makeover” is the same as it would be for the tummy tuck itself. Most people are able to drive within 7-10 days, return to “sit down” jobs in 14 days or less, and full activity, including work outs, within a month. Again, recovery varies with the size and overall health of the patient. Some recovery periods are less and some may be slightly more.
We also have a full service overnight stay facility with continuous care for Houston and Lake Jackson patients who want that level of care and attention. This may simply be a matter of personal comfort, or may be chosen by Dr. Yarish due to previously existing medical issues, medications, or lack of personal caretakers. Whether the overnight stay option is chosen or not, our nursing staff will assist you with a shower and dressing change the morning after surgery. This may be the single, most amazing feel-good part of the entire process, next to the result itself.
THE FOLLOW UP
Postoperative care begins immediately. The shower and dressing change above is just the start. All of our Houston and Lake Jackson surgery patients head to our ReNew You MD Medical Spa where they are treated to adjunctive sessions of lymphatic drainage massage of all surgical areas. They also undergo endermologie treatments to enhance and maintain the smooth results we are all looking for. And finally, all incisions are treated with some combination of our proprietary scar cream, silicone taping, and laser therapy in order to give the best overall appearance.
Visit our photo gallery to find the results (plural) you are looking for. Generally…AMAZING! As you can tell from our photos, results vary with the size, shape, and amount of physical distortion that has been caused by childbearing or weight gain and loss for any reason. But it’s often hard to believe so much can be done within one surgical setting.
If this is something that interests you. Dr. Yarish and his patient coordinator will be happy to discuss the procedure further and determine if you are a candidate for this life-changing procedure.
What Is A Mommy Makeover?
“Mommy Makeover” is the phrase used to signify a group of procedures that are designed to return your body as closely as possible to the one that you had prior to child bearing. There are three basic procedures that are performed at the same surgical setting. They are:
- Breast augmentation, breast reduction, and/or breast lift
- Tummy tuck that removes excess and/or stretch marked skin of the abdomen
- Liposuction of areas that are resistant to fat burning no matter what you do to reduce
Who Is a Good Candidate for a Mommy Makeover?
As long as Houston women are healthy and done having children, you are most likely to be a great candidate for a Mommy Makeover. Just keep in mind that if you plan on having more children, your results might not be permanent, as the body will again stretch during pregnancy.
Can I Get a Mommy Makeover if I’ve Had a C-Section?
Of course, you can get a Mommy Makeover if you’ve had a C-section! In fact, the sagging skin that hangs over the C-section scar is one of the main reasons Houston women come to us for help. The tummy part of the procedure removes the entire C-section scar if there is one, removes the stretch marks in the lower tummy, and tightens the abdominal muscles that have been stretched or separated.
What About My Breasts? How Is That Procedure Done?
Although your breasts enlarge during pregnancy, most women end up losing a significant amount of volume, which at the same time creates sagging. If you are happy with the size of your breasts after childbearing, then no increase or decrease in size is required. Sagging and laxity nearly always occurs however, and lifting and tightening your breasts are integral parts of the mommy makeover whether you reduce or increase the size.
Is The Liposuction Necessary?
Most often during pregnancy, areas of fat grow where you’ve never had them before. These areas are resistant to weight loss and exercise so at least some suction is usually necessary to recontour those unwanted/unsightly areas.
Are There Any Risks For Houston Women When Having a Mommy Makeover?
All surgeries, including Mommy Makeovers, come with risks. Luckily, these complications are rare due to Dr. Yarish’s expertise, skill, and experience (many hundreds performed).
Will I Need Help Taking Care of My Family After the Procedure?
We get it — you’re a mommy first and foremost, so taking yourself out of action for a bit can sound daunting. Everyone’s recovery period is a little different, but like most surgeries, you’ll be limited in what you can do for period of time. So depending upon the ages of your children, you will need some extra help around the house. You should be able to drive within 7-10 days and most women return to work in two weeks, depending upon the physical demands of their occupation.
Will a Mommy Makeover Give Me Scars?
Scarring from any type of surgery is inevitable. That being said, we can help you minimize scars as much as possible using topical creams, laser lightening, and other measures we’ve developed to limit scarring. These treatments are included in your surgical package in order to promote rapid healing with minimally visible incision sites.
What Can I Expect in My Consultation?
To begin, Dr. Yarish will take a look at your medical history to see if you’re a good candidate for a Mommy Makeover. He’ll then perform a physical exam to take a look at your troublesome areas and see what he can do to help. Of course, your input is essential here as well, so he’ll ask what you’d like to achieve with this procedure. With this information, he devises a strategy to improve your confidence and help you look even better than before you gave birth.
It’s OK if you don’t know exactly what you want during your initial consultation. Dr. Yarish loves talking things over with his Houston and Lake Jackson patients, so you can get a better idea of what is possible with the Mommy Makeover procedure.
