Liposuction is a popular and in-demand procedure at our Houston and Lake Jackson offices. It is a process that sculpts your body by removing unwanted pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. Some of the areas that we commonly treat is the abdomen, hips, arms, thighs, saddlebags, area around the bra line and love handles. But any area of the body that displays unwanted fat can be an effective target for liposuction. At Yarish Plastic Surgery, our doctors can perform liposuction surgery alone or combine it with a facelift, tummy tuck, or any other cosmetic procedure.
Am I A Good Candidate For Liposuction?
To qualify for this procedure, you must meet our health qualifications and have realistic aesthetic expectations. In other words, liposuction produces great results, but there is no cure-all for optimal body shaping. Liposuction also does not stop new fat cells from forming. Aside from that, you must be healthy with no contraindicating medical conditions before we can perform the procedure.
Health issues that may be a factor include:
- Disorders of the immune system.
- Disorders that impact blood clotting.
- Past reactions to anesthesia.
The best course is to make an appointment with Dr. Yarish so he can assess your unique health profile.
Other than being healthy, deciding factors for liposuction surgery may mean that:
- You have a localized area of fatty accumulation that is disproportionate from the rest of your body.
- You want your figure to have more definition and a smoother contour.
- You are physically fit, and your weight is stable.
- You have good skin elasticity.

The Liposuction Process at Yarish Plastic Surgery
You will be made comfortable during your liposuction procedure in our Lake Jackson or Houston locations. The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia for best results. Occasionally our doctors will perform the procedure with local anesthesia if the areas are small and easily accessible. Liposuction sites will be covered with a compression garment immediately after your procedure. This is an outpatient procedure and patients typically recover comfortably at home.
Multiple techniques exist for removing excess fat from your body through liposuction; however, generally, the fat is removed through a thin, hollow tube called a cannula. Two of the most common cannula-based methods we use at our Houston and Lake Jackson practices are tumescent liposuction and ultrasonic-assisted liposuction.
During tumescent liposuction, we use a local anesthetic and a wetting solution to constrict your blood vessels. Then we insert a thin tube into a small incision and suck the fat out gently using a well-maintained machine. This option, specifically the constricted blood vessels aspect of the procedure, allows us to remove fat from your body in a way that minimizes blood loss and post-surgical pain.
We commonly use the ultrasonic technique in areas with dense tissue, such as the chest or upper abdomen. This technique also helps treat love handles, outer thighs, hips, and the upper back. Unlike tumescent liposuction, ultrasonic liposuction liquefies fat prior to removal, and this liquefying is especially useful when removing fat from stubborn areas. The good thing about Ultrasonic liposuction is that it usually offers a faster recovery time than other types of liposuction.

Recovery From Liposuction
Recovery time for liposuction varies, but most people return to work within a week. Our doctors will make the determination based on your liposuction procedure or procedures and your unique patient profile.
Some swelling and bruising could persist for a few weeks after this procedure. Discomfort is easily controlled with prescription medication and aftercare instructions provided. It is important to follow all aftercare instructions and take pain medications when needed.
For Houston and Lake Jackson men and women who qualify, liposuction typically does not carry significant post-surgical complications or includes extensive recovery time.
Dr. Yarish and Dr. Bartlett will monitor your healing through follow-up appointments to ensure the best results.
At Yarish Plastic Surgery, we want to maximize your results with minimal downtime, so we customize all our surgical plans to the individual. To learn more about the liposuction process or to schedule a consultation, please contact us today at our Lake Jackson or Houston locations.
Dr. Yarish and Dr. Bartlett’s Treatment Plan
At Yarish Plastic Surgery, we believe that skin and body rejuvenation is an evolutionary process that does not begin and end solely with the surgery itself.
While we do know that surgery is the most dramatic and gratifying part of the rejuvenation process, our doctors can enhance and even maximize your surgery results with our “comprehensive rejuvenation concept.” This concept is necessarily a treatment plan specifically designed for each procedure in order to prepare the skin and body for surgery and to aid the healing process following your surgery.
We do recognize that many Houston and Lake Jackson residents do not have the time or inclination to take advantage of the complete program, and we want to assure you that your surgical results will be the best attainable anywhere. However, if you are in a position to take advantage of the “comprehensive rejuvenation concept,” you will find the entire experience to be more relaxing, and you will know that you have treated yourself to the most unique and gratifying experience that plastic surgery has to offer. And you will know that you have availed yourself of the ultimate in skin and body rejuvenation.
In order to make this experience more convenient and affordable, we have created a combination of ultimate experience packages specifically tailored to enhance each procedure. Our doctors strongly recommend that you take advantage of this “comprehensive rejuvenation concept.” The program outlined for you will be instituted pre-operatively, and will be continued post-operatively until healing is complete.
