What is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation surgery can improve both appearance and self-esteem in women who are unhappy with the size or shape of their breasts. Whether it’s due to disproportionate cup size in relation to body frame or sagging breasts following childbirth, Yarish Plastic Surgery is pleased to offer a comprehensive approach to breast augmentation in both Houston and Lake Jackson locations.

Dr. Yarish and Dr. Bartlett will tell you what you need to know to prepare for surgery and will continue to treat individuals throughout the healing process afterward in order to enhance the overall rejuvenation experience.

About Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation, also known as breast enhancement, is a surgical procedure that increases the size of a woman’s breasts. After experiencing pregnancy, the natural process of aging, and changes in weight, most women begin to notice that their breasts just aren’t as full or perky as they once were. By having a breast augmentation with or without a breast lift at Yarish Plastic Surgery Centers in Houston and Lake Jackson, women are not only able to regain a more youthful appearance in their silhouette, but they also experience a renewed sense of self-confidence and pride in the way they look.

Breast augmentation procedures are performed as an outpatient and only take between 1 and 2 hours to complete, depending upon whether or not a breast lift is necessary. For your surgery, our doctors will insert your chosen size and type of breast implants into a pocket that they will carefully create under the breast tissue or beneath the muscle. The type of implant chosen will depend on the desired results and will be determined at the preoperative visit.

There are a number of choices to make when it comes to undergoing breast augmentation. Consultation with Dr. Yarish or Dr. Bartlett in either the Houston or Lake Jackson location provides patients with guidance on what is possible and recommended for them based on their desired results, body frame, and current breast size.

Dr. Yarish is a dual board-certified plastic surgeon who has been providing women with natural-looking results from breast augmentation for more than 30 years.

Types of Implants

Patients in either Houston or Lake Jackson facilities can choose between silicone or saline breast implants. Patient preference often comes into play when deciding which type is best. Most patients now choose silicone over saline breast implants. In fact, in both the Houston and Lake Jackson surgery centers patients choose silicone 20 to 1 over saline due to the more natural look and feel in most cases.

Both silicone and saline breast implants are FDA approved. Our doctors can place either type of breast implant above or below the chest muscle, depending on your specific needs and body type.

Breast Implant Size

Another important decision that you will make during your consultation is what size your breast implant will be. As we mentioned above, both silicone and saline breast implants can come in many different sizes.

When considering the size of your implants, it’s important to consider your unique body frame. Implants that are too large for a person’s frame can cause a number of problems, like longer recovery times, discomfort, and a look that is disproportional.

Breast Augmentation with Mastopexy

Many of our patients are good candidates for breast augmentation surgery, but they also may be concerned with sagging or droopy breasts. Having an augmentation may help to increase the size of your breasts as well as lifting them slightly, but having augmentation with mastopexy (breast lift) can improve the overall perkiness of your breasts. A breast lift focuses solely on raising and reshaping your existing breast tissue, so when used in conjunction with breast implants, the overall appearance can be much more youthful.

Treatment Plan At Yarish Plastic Surgery

At Yarish Plastic Surgery, we believe that skin and body rejuvenation is an evolutionary process that does not begin and end solely with the surgery itself.

While we do know that surgery is the most dramatic and gratifying part of the rejuvenation process, we can enhance and even maximize your surgery results with our “comprehensive rejuvenation concept.” This concept is essentially a treatment plan specifically designed for each procedure in order to prepare the skin and body for surgery and to aid the healing process following your surgery.

We do recognize that many people do not have the time or inclination to take advantage of the complete program, and we want to assure you that your surgical results will be the best attainable anywhere. However, if you are in a position to take advantage of the “comprehensive rejuvenation concept,” you will find the entire experience to be more relaxing, and you will know that you have treated yourself to the most unique and gratifying experience that plastic surgery has to offer. And you will know that you have availed yourself of the ultimate in skin and body rejuvenation.

In order to make this experience more convenient and affordable, we have created a combination of ultimate experience packages specifically tailored to enhance each procedure. Our doctors recommend that you take advantage of this “comprehensive rejuvenation concept.” The program outlined for you will be instituted pre-operatively and will be continued postoperatively until healing is complete.

The Recovery Process for Breast Augmentation

Within two to four days after your surgery, you can go about your normal day without too many changes. You should stay home from work and avoid driving while you are on pain medications, but you’ll be able to shower and walk around before then. No heavy lifting for three to four weeks. As for physical exercise, you shouldn’t do anything too intense for four weeks after your surgery. This includes activities such as jogging, biking, weightlifting, and anything that puts too much strain on your arms and chest.

Frequently Asked Questions About Breast Augmentation

Before signing up for your breast augmentation, you might have a lot of questions. Don’t worry — that’s normal! Here are answers to some of the most common questions we get about breast augmentation.

  • Can I Have A Baby After Having Breast Augmentation?

Many women in Houston believe the myth that they can’t have a healthy baby after having a breast augmentation. Luckily, that’s all it is: a myth. You can even safely breastfeed with your implants, as they will be placed beneath your breast glands.

  • What's The Difference Between Saline And Silicone Implants?

Both saline and silicone are great choices for breast augmentation, but they offer slightly different results. With silicone implants, your breasts have a softer and more natural feel with a rounder shape. Saline implants, on the other hand, are slightly heavier. There are many different types, styles and sizes of breast implants. We will determine the type and size that is best for you together.

  • How Long Does Breast Augmentation Last?

Our doctors use only the highest quality silicone or saline implants, meaning your new look will last for years to come. As long as your implants don’t leak or deflate, you can leave them in for the rest of your life. And if they do start deflating, you won’t be in any danger, as your body can just absorb the saline. If you choose silicone implants and there is an issue, the silicone remains intact inside the shell, so you won’t have any problems.

  • Will I have A Lot of Scars?

Scarring is inevitable for patients with breast augmentation in the Houston area. That being said, our doctors do everything they can to minimize the appearance. While there are different surgical approaches depending on the exact procedures you choose, our doctors make incisions in hard-to-see places, such as the crease underneath your breast.

  • What Can Houston Patients Expect After The Surgery?

After your breast augmentation, Houston patients can go home with some bandages over incisions and a special bra that holds dressings in place. You might feel tightness and pain in your chest, but you can reduce these symptoms by taking over-the-counter pain medications. You will be wearing a sports bra for four to six weeks after surgery and then can ease back into your own bras.

  • Will I Be Able to Breastfeed After I Have A Breast Augmentation?

The short answer is yes because the augmentation doesn’t interupt the milk ducts. However, if a mastopexy (breast lift) is performed at the same time, there may be limitations in the amount of milk that can get to the ducts.

  • Am I Too Old To Have A Breast Augmentation?

You’re never too old to have the body you want! Healthy women in their 60s or older who have decided they’d like to get back to the fuller, perkier breasts they once knew, should call and schedule a consultation to get the best recommendation for your specific needs and wants.

  • When Can I Resume My Normal Exercise Routine After Having A Breast Augmentation?

Our doctors recommend that Houston and Lake Jackson patients avoid intense physical exercise for at least 4 weeks post-op. That means no weight lifting, running, cycling, or other intense cardio that could cause the breast implants to shift within the breast pocket. Remember, all patients heal at different rates, so let us officially clear you for exercise before resuming your normal routine.
